Outer Banks locals, visitors and guests are invited this
weekend to visit The Wall That Heals, a traveling three-quarter scale
replica of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. The Wall That
Heals is set-up for the weekend at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head with a
handful of events and speakers that honor the roughly 2.7 million Americans
that served in Vietnam, and displays the names of the 58,318 Americans who died
in the Vietnam War.
The Wall That Heals was introduced on Veteran’s Day in 1996
by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF), and has since been on display at
almost 700 locations throughout the country, displaying the names of those who
lost their lives in Vietnam. The replica is 375 feet long and 7.5 feet tall and
showcases similar features to the The Wall in D.C. LED lights and granite
backdrop makes the wall readable for visitors throughout the day or night. Additionally,
the trailer that carries The Wall turns into a mobile Vietnam War education center
for patrons on location.
