Outer Banks. Along with warm weather, open beaches, May is jam packed with an array of events going on. As the Outer Banks gears up for Summer season, we like to kick off
Summertime with a bang!
May 3, 2014 l Corolla, NC l 5AM
This is North Carolinas first Outer Banks 50k Ultra Marathon. Race begins at the Currituck Beach lighthouse and travels down to the town of Kill Devil Hills. With 29 miles being along the beautiful oceanfront of the Outer Banks, this run is anything but boring. Open course, so runners are along support crews throughout the event.
Flying Pirate Half Marathon & First Flight 5k
May 2 - 4 l Kill Devil Hills, NC l Times Vary
This is the 5
th Anniversary of the Flying Pirate Half Marathon and First Flight 5k. The course begins on Woods Roads in Kitty Hawk and takes you along the beautiful views of the Albemarle Sound. As you wind your way through the Wright Memorial and down the coast, you finish in Nags Head Woods. Free runner beer and food.
KidFest
May 9, 2014 l Manteo, NC l 9:30AM
One Festival Park, Maneto, NC. Children and Partnership for Dare County is sponsoring this event. This is an annual event that is free with fun for the whole family. Children, 5 and under, will have their face painted, enjoy musical performances, ice cream, and much more. There will also be a fire truck and a U.S Coast Guard boat open for exploring.
May 10, 2014 l Nags Head, NC l 8:30AM
What better way to spend time with your children on Mothers Day weekend than accomplishing a fitness goal together? This beautiful Saturday morning starts at 8am with the 1 Mile Run Fun, with the 5k to follow at 8:30AM. Dont forget about the After Race Beach Party at the Ramada Plaza. The buffet is free for all 5k runners, $10 for ages 6-20, and $15 for ages 21 and older.
May 10-11, 2014 l Manteo, NC l 12:00PM
Noon at Roanoke Island Festival Park is where opening ceremonies begin. This brings everything together for a high-energy kickoff to celebrate the lives of those who have battle cancer. Continuing on with Survivor Activities at 2PM, Luminaria Ceremony at 9PM, and ending with the Closing Ceremony at 9AM to remember the lives of those lost. Events and entertainment all night long.
May 16-19, 2014 l Nags Head, NC l Times Vary
The 4-day event is jam packed with adventure. Starting with the 3 day long Dune Competition. Pilots will have to round pylons, and land spot on the center of the target. More events like Aero Towing Competition, Woody Jones Memorial Street Dance, Rogallo BBQ, and of course award ceremonies. Fifty-dollar entry fee for participants and $14 BBQ tickets. Great fun for the whole family to enjoy the Dunes before it gets too warm.
Outer Banks Beach Music Festival

Get the family together and join in on a day of beach music. First band starts at 11AM. They encourage you to bring a 5-quart cooler, chairs, and bring a picnic to the lawn. Beer and wine will be available to purchase onsite. Tickets are $25, and the music plays all evening long. Bring the family, relax and enjoy great music right on the sound

Celebrate your memorial day with your family at the Shallowbag Shag Beach Music Festival. They hold this event at the Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo. Bands in attendance are The Carolina Breakers, The Holiday Band, Jim Quick & Coastline, The Embers, and The Tams. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online through their website. This is a great way to kick off Summer on the Outer Banks.

Preview Night is the last dress rehearsal before The Lost Colony kicks off their season. Tonight is when all tickets are sold at a discounted rate of $20. During some point in the night action may stop during the performance to adjust and fine tune before opening night. Show begins at 8PM.
May 31, 2014 l Nags Head, NC l All Day
Extreme Volleyball Professionals will stop in Nags Head at Jennettes Pier along their 2014 tour. Professional beach volleyball players from around the nation will compete for more than $5,000 in cash & prizes. Spectator price = FREE! Day will be packed full of volleyball action, chances to meet pro players, and win EVP prizes. EVP Awards Party from 8PM - 11PM.

The Triple-S is slowly becoming one of the best and largest kite boarding events in the world. Riders from all over come to the Outer Banks to compete in the Surf, Slicks, and Sliders divisions for the overall Triple-S Crown. Seven days of sports action, 7 different parties, 7 different live bands. Located in Waves, NC.
